Benedikt Frey

Benedikt Frey pays tribute to the past, present and future of dance music in this weeks mix through an enticing mosaic of 90s-infused breakbeat, industrial, acid and grim techno. We also had a chat to discuss production methods, influences and releases.

Premiere: D. Futers – Never Givin’ Up

Inaugurating a new branch to Natural Sciences ever expanding family tree – the yet again cetacean-emblazoned Dolphin Traxx subdivision, UK-based producer D. Futers takes over with a catchy two-tracker fusing the best of garage-bass, breakbeat and house. Stream ‘Never Givin’ Up’ within.

Premiere: Leonardo Martelli – Il Registro

Menacing like JAWS’ main theme at first – a sinister bass strumming in a desperately shark-less ocean, ‘Il Registro’ offers what certainly counts as one of Leonardo Martelli’s most compelling slabs to date, combining the immersive impact of wistful pads with the galvanic crunch of a stealth breakbeat lilt. Straight up killer.

DBRM: Faction

With Radioactive Man and dBridge picking up their DBRM alias again over on Craig Richards’ The Nothing Special, it is the sound clash of two very different styles that makes this game all the more intriguing.

Premiere: Lemme Kno – 1234567

We’re no short of proud to premiere the pumping closer, ‘1234567’, in full today – most certainly the track that fits Future Times cross-cut themes and jazzy dynamism like a glove here. A fertile ravey vibe doped on slashing drums and fierce snares, jump-roping bleeps and bloops taking care of the track’s melodic sublimation. Tasty as it gets.

2030: Prescience EP

Back with a third offering for French label CLFT, Italian producer Nico Campanella aka 2030 reloads the mother ship’s cannons with nerve and acumen, attractively summoning the ghosts of Drexciya, Galaxy 2 Galaxy and Der Zyklus for a timeproof, space-traveling treat.

The Pilotwings

Lyon-based production duo “The Pilotwings” lay down a kaleidoscopic mix lacing unhinged synth blast-offs, easternmost melodic tropes and ’80s oddball groovers and lift the veil on their boundless scope of influences, “Brothers From Different Mothers” debuts and their studio voodoo.

Luca Lozano + Mr. Ho: Visions Of Rhythm

Similar in essence to its ‘Dobb Meep’ and ‘Drip Box’ predecessors, this new three-tracker from the Klasse Recordings pair goes straight for the jugular, dishing out a playful shifting of spacious harmonics and skittish drumwork gone wild.

Luca Lozano

Klasse Recordings label owner Luca Lozano found a gap in his busy timetable and laid down a belter of a fiery club-focused mix for us. We took the chance to find out more about all label-related ideas and process, current mood and projects as well as his epic label designs and personal street art backdrop.
